Re: Seeking info about women sharing cohousing units

I am very interested in this concept, especially in a larger home with a
group of women; one kitchen with separate private baths and bedroom suites
is ideal, but I am also willing to consider sharing a bath if it is well
appointed and large enough to accommodate the stuff for two people. This
idea is what first drew me to cohousing. I was exploring the idea of a
retirement option for single women, and in talking about it with friends and
acquaintances, I was told about cohousing. I still like the idea of one
household with a group of people. I don't know if this is because I grew up
in a large family, but I don't have a need for extensive private space. It
seems that most larger homes in cohousing are still too small to work for an
unrelated group of four or five people, though. A retrofitted convent? I
have heard of apartment "pods" radiating from a common house, which is also
an attractive idea.

Have you considered living in Santa Fe, New Mexico? We at ElderGrace have
several women who might consider sharing a two-bedroom, two-bath home which
won't be built until end of 2007. You would need to be here to meet them
and I can't speak for them. Please see our website www.eldergracee.org.

This is an interesting idea, and-- as a woman approaching retirement who
will
have a comfortable income yet not enough to be able to purchase a home on my
own, but who is, nevertheless, determined to live in a co-housing
community--it's one I'm interested in exploring. I wonder if there are
other
women out there who would like to open communication about this possibility
and
see where it leads.
