We let parents decide about how much kids participate in community endeavors. A couple of kids come to the general meeting, and generally kids show up to meetings when THEY have an agenda item, many show up at work parties, pretty much all of them show up anytime food or dessert is happening. Kids get a discounted rate at our community meals, half of the adult rate up to age X (12?) and then pay adult rate. I can't recall the age for sure so it might be older. .
