One final reminder for folks in the Bay Area and around Northern California, living in and seeking and creating cohousing: If you're looking for community in your life, planning to retire with friends, doing a group house, or looking to create your own ecovillage, intentional community, or cohousing neighborhood, one of these events can be worth the trip to Berkeley. There's THREE events this weekend: * Friday Night: Community Seeker's Fair at Green City Gallery in Berkeley with Finding Community author (and Communities magazine Editor Emeritus) Diana Leafe Christian of Earthaven Ecovillage near Asheville, NC. She will present on how to research thoroughly, visit enjoyably, evaluate intelligently, and join gracefully an ecovillage or other kind of intentional community. This is the subject of her new book, Finding Community: How to Join an Ecovillage or Intentional Community. Copies of this book; Diana's first book, Creating a Life Together: Practical Tools to Grow Ecovillages and Intentional Communities; the new Communities Directory; and other books will be available. * Saturday all-day at Green City Gallery in downtown Berkeley: Communities Convergence featuring an ecovillage slide show and Slow Is Beautiful author / Phinney Ecovillage creator / voluntary simplicity movement leader Cecile Andrews from Seattle. And Open Space for you to meet other seekers and creators and people living in community, to talk about ecology and affordability and permaculture, Aging In Community (both designing for creating community where you live and Senior/Elder Cohousing), and condo/coop law. Videos including "Visions of Utopia" and local community documentaries (with filmmakers present). Retrofit community creation. Green Building. And more, based on what YOU bring to teach and share. Bonus session: eight common sources of conflict and how to avoid them. (optional Saturday evening field trip to local ecovillage calendar potluck or biofuels sustainable roadshow caravan fundraiser party) * Sunday all day: Creating and Sustaining Intentional Communities, Ecovillages and Cohousing workshop. Nearly 100 pages of handouts. Learn from Diana how to get started, attract members, arrange financing, recruit, select sites, work out vision and mission, and other essential elements. Pricing (including some sliding scale options), locations, descriptions, and RSVP forms can be found at the Northern California Cohousing website: http://www.norcalcoho.org/ Raines P.S. For those in Silicon Valley / the Peninsula: An additional ecovillage slide show will take Monday evening at the Green Building Exchange in Redwood City.
