We hire someone to clean the commonhouse once a week, midweek (she does bathrooms, floors, sweeping, vacuuming etc). I think that is about $4400/year incl end of year bonus, taxes, etc Then on Saturdays we all rotate thru and each of us is on a team and ends up cleaning about once a quarter. You can hire someone to do your cleaning, you are expected to spend about 2 hours, and we have a fairly complex list of what needs to be done (a deep kitchen clean gets done once a month by the Saturday crew, the refrigerator is cleaned out every week, the porches get done, and now we have added a job of doing some outside cleanup/weeding, etc) In addition we have the floors professionally waxed twice a year. And a committee is in charge of trying to keep the clutter down. (no dumping excess stuff in the common house without prior approval). Cleaning is a never ending process. --audrey watson Winslow Cohousing, Bainbridge Island, WA
