Hello,As did Maggie, I hesitated to comment because I live in Canada (Nova Scotia), and the issues seem, even if appropriate to this list, not Canadian. I must say that on a recent visit to the States, I was dismayed to see the over-housing and foreclosure on mortgages. Surely the cohousing projects have generally not fallen into this cycle of building and buying too much, then losing it all, leaving housing vacant and people unhoused. The very nature of the sell, then build, and focus on sustainability, should help prevent that.
We cannot deduct mortgage interest from our income taxes in Canada. That alone says much.
