I once lived in a college dorm that had cork floors. I cannot recommend them 
highly enough. They are resilient, quiet, warm, easy on the feet, well-sealed, 
seem to wash and wear well. They are very expensive commercially, but I think 
you can find the cork tiles to purchase online and then install them yourself.
