It sounds like our kitchen is like Shadowlake Village. Our kitchen also significantly open with a large open passthru counters, cabinets that can be opened on the kitchen side and the great room side and one door.

Having cabinets that can be opened on the great room is very handy to get glasses and plates without adding to the kitchen traffic. Sometimes the cooks need to adjust how they prepare the meal as the noise from the kitchen can disturb a meeting.

Are you able to completely close off the kitchen from the great room/dining
room? What works and doesn't work about this?
Yes but noise is still a problem.

One day we will do an extreme makeover on the kitchen and then perhaps we could address the noise problem.
