In the 2008 Coho/US census, we reported no occupied cohousing communities in Texas. If we got it wrong, please let the communities know that we'd love to include them and that the editorially-maintained Cohousing Directory is our primary data source. The FIC Directory, which is more inclusive than the Cohousing Directory includes many communities not found in the Cohousing Directory. The FIC Directory lists 37 communities in Texas that answered either Yes or No to the question "Is in the forming stage" and that say Yes to the question "Use the cohousing model?" *http://tinyurl.com/6cxda3* If we exclude those that answered "No," we see this: *http://tinyurl.com/6kvrf9* ** a total of 16 communities. None of these 16 have made it into the Cohousing Directory as Built (yet). Some of the 16 are still, actually, actively in development and what they say in their directory listing conflicts with what they saw on their website. Given its large population, its not too suprising that the Cohousing Website is used by hundreds of Texans every single month - so there is clearly interest and Texas won't remain coho-free for too much longer - and some of the Forming Groups there are getting close! Another BIG coho-free state, by the way, is Florida. P.S. A mail I sent recently had a problem with leading and trailing characters, so if those above don't work, you can try copying and pasting them into your browser address field.
