------------------------------My sense is that every cohousing community of which I know already operates an inherent barter system starting from managing their own community instead of paying out taxable income to some other party to manage the community for us, including all the volunteers serving on the national and regional network boards. This grows as the level of community trust grows, which is what many of us had in mind from day one: to live in a community of trusted friends and neighbors, helping one another in times of need, or merely times of want. The more we exchange or purchase each others services in lieu of paying out reportable income to any other party which then become taxes to fund the national nuclear arsenal, the more we are creating an internal non-reportable, non-taxable economy. Whoever said co-housers are all liberals was partly mistaken. Financially, they are among the most conservative in the country, judging from their actions.
