This is from David Entin, Rocky Hill Cohousing, Northampton, Massachusetts. 
We have 28 households and moved in from four to three years ago.  We were in 
the planning stage for 4 years before construction began.  We were the 7th 
household to join, and we joined 1 1/2 years into the four year planning 
process.  When we joined,  the concern was: how will we ever get the needed 
28 households.  We talked about marketing and did what we could think of. 
We agreed that we needed at least 2/3 of the households committed out of the 
28 before we could begin construction.  Slowly more people were interested 
and joined.  Toward the end of the planning process there seemed to be a 
rush of young couples with, or planning to have, children.  By the time 
construction started we had a waiting list of three or four families.   So, 
it worked out well, miraculously.  I have heard that our neighbors, Pathways 
Cohousing, had a similar experience.   They are four years older than we 
are.
