Does anyone have experience with assigning regular chores to teens (beyond just cleaning the teen room, and perhaps recycling cans).
We don't assign chores in general -- adults assume responsibility for one or another. Our oldest participating teens are 12-13. Teens and pre-teens do chores with their parents.
When we moved in parents raised a good point, I thought. They didn't want their teen agers to be allowed to assume a chore without discussing it with them first. The child might take on a chore the parents knew they couldn't handle and it would be a bad experience all around.
