Hello all -- Question: what do these three things have in common? Zip Car: Wheels When You Want Them. Time Dollars: barter goods and services with others. Freecycle: give others things of value you're not using. Answer? Share-ability. It's the new black. Each of these sharing networks requires you to go somewhere to get or use the service. And, in using the service, although totally wonderful, you may never meet the giver or the recipient. The advent of the internet has fostered a zillion sites devoted to sharing information, products, services. Share Some Sugar. Wikipedia. Time Dollars. Real-time communities have long had co-ops, recycling programs, tool libraries. Ever wonder what it would be like to live in a community where sharing is the norm? Wheels you don't have to reserve? You barter goods and services and share things you're not using with people you know and who know you? And it happens right next door? Not down the block or on-line? But right IN your community? On Sunday, Nov. 14, 4-6p the development team for Metro-Village, a cohousing community at the Takoma metro in Washington, DC, is holding a very special meeting called: Beyond the Zip Car, Time Dollars and Freecycle: Share-ability. At this event, you will meet three people currently living in cohousing. They will happily share their stories of what it took to build cohousing and why they call cohousing “home.” There will an opportunity for YOU to share your thoughts and vision about living in community. There will also be a special Nuts n’ Bolts session devoted to the particulars of the project: floor plans, look and feel, pricing, schedule of fees and ... an opportunity to join in the group’s activities at a refundable fee for a limited time. For more details and to sign up for this event please go to our Meet Up calendar at: http://www.meetup.com/Washington-DC-Area-Cohousing/calendar/15285442/ Or you can call or email Ann: 202.573.9113; ann [at] metro-village.org Be sure to sign up for our mailing list to stay abreast of what’s happening at Metro-Village. http://www.metro-village.org We don’t trade names. Ever. You can also find out when the next Site Tour is on the website's calendar. If you are considering cohousing, especially urban cohousing, I urge you to take advantage of this meeting to come and share your vision with us and get your questions answered. Please pass this information along to others. I look forward to meeting you.
