There was a thread re cork flooring in this list a year or so ago, regarding
an effort to ³re-finish² cork flooring that did not work out so well.  It
appears that cork is a good-looking and advantageous product for a
considerable number of years ? but once it is stained and worn, one cannot
re-finish it to a like-new condition as one can with hardwood.

Flooring is interesting on a life cycle cost basis.  At one extreme, a good
tile job can last decades.  At another, the re-cycled carpet tile industry
was pioneered by Interface, and now offers cost-competitive systems that can
be reasonably fully replaced on a five-year maintenance cycle.
