Hello,

I remember Jan Gudman Hoyer at the Seattle Coho Conference 2009
telling us about a survey in Denmark, stating that 30% of the
population being interested in living in collaborative housing.

Yesterday I received a very interesting mail from the French cohousing
mailing list ( habitat_groupe [at] yahoogroupes.fr ).

In France a recent survey (may 2011) came to a similar conclusion as
the one in Denmark.

Note that this survey was done by Gecina, who is one of the leading
Real Estate firms and also listed on the stock market.

It revealed that a majority of the French population are willing to share
- green spaces with their neighbours (58%)
- kids playroom (55%)
- garage (53%)
- common room for chatting, reading, library, .... (52%)
- ... and laundry and  store room (about 40%)

And 1/3 of the French population is potentially interested in
Collaborative Housing (=habitat groupé coopératif) (32%), and this
proportion is even larger in young people (44%) and the higher
educated (44%). (complete survey in annex to this mail)

These remarkable figures show us that Cohousing is not a marginal
phenomenon but carries enormous potential and possibilities !

Et le fait que Gecina soit une société immobilière de grande envergure
cotée en bourse, permet d'éviter un parti pris partisan pour
l'autopromotion en tout cas !
