At JPCohousing, (30 units, dense urban site) 100% of our units are 'visitable'.
That means that we made the doorways and bathrooms in every unit large enough
to accommodate a wheelchair. We also created covered walkways on all three
levels plus a pedestrian bridge to connect the two buildings. Via elevator and
covered walkways, anyone in a wheelchair can get to any unit.
I think we regret not including automatic door openers to the commonhouse.
Also, we should have included a ramp from the back CH door to the parking lot.
Today a wheelchair needs to use a door further away and wheel around the house
to get to parking.

Subject: [C-L]_ Accessibility features

Hi Everyone,

In terms of making units accessible for wheelchairs/walkers/aging-in-place,
could you let us know the following:

For existing communities: What features has your community included?
What features do you regret not having included?

For those under development: What features do you plan to include?

Thanks!
Debby
