The 4 page AARP Cohousing FACT SHEET is at: http://assets.aarp.org/rgcenter/ppi/liv-com/fs175-cohousing.pdf (short url: http://bit.ly/KQb5IP for use in comments etc) So clearly the ARRP does support cohousing. It is regretable that the recent article did not compare pocket neighborhoods with cohousing, they do clearly have some similarity. From what little I've read: (comments welcome) Pocket Neighborhoods Cohousing smaller often about 13 units typicially about 30 units developer, market driven group driven development and operated smaller if any common facilities more extensive commonhouse common meals etc? Common meals typical Note that these things are related. Also I suspect that the cohousing process is more difficult and therefore combined with the size implications, more pocket communities may be get developed. On the other hand over time cohousing communities have used developers more. Fred who will be 65 the end of the month and finally joined ARRP a while back tho I had not yet read their Bulletin that I saw come thru the mailbox recently. PS I sent a note to the article author: Hello, Thanks for your recent article "Sharing Common Ground". It has generated a bit of flurry on the Cohousing-L mailing list ( http:l.cohousing.org ). People regretted that cohousing was not mentioned given the similarities. AARP has had articles about cohousing and has a pdf fact sheet about cohousing. It would be nice to have a comparison. If we create such a comparison online, how could it be offered to readers of your article? I do not see a "Letters to the Editor" in the paper copy of the AARP Bulletin. -- Fred H.
