Here in Port Townsend no computer sign up, no rotations, no assigned cleaners.
We accomodate allergies etc-- GF (though not celiac), vegetarian, no sugar, no
garlic. Perhaps RoseWind gets by with such a simple system because (in addition
to a weekly potluck and holiday meals) we just have one night a week with cooks
making supper for all who sign up. Typical cooked-supper turnout is about 25
plus a few kids.

Cooking is voluntary, via sign up on bulletin board sheet. Some people never
cook, but often eat: that works ok because we all pitch in on clean up.
Another sheet on the bulletin board is the sign up for the coming week's Monday
meal. People often sign up while at Thursday potluck. (Or they email the
cook(s) or sign up while passing through the common house.) Has menu, with note
if there are options (veg on request, GF same), list of names: circle if
coming, cross off if not; no mark? cooks might call or email and check.

We also have a list on the door of the fridge that has allergies and food
preferences.

The only computerized part is a spreadsheet a volunteer keeps, accounting for
payments and debiting meals eaten. He sits with a notebook at the start of
Monday meals, to accept payments (most pay a bunch ahead, or take meal-money
credit in lieu of cash reimbursement for shopping expenses when they cook, so
only a few are making payments on a given night) and note who came. Adult meals
are $4.50. That also keeps the pantry in flours, sugars, butter, oils, spices,
etc.

Off topic PS: I'm watching the UStream live cam on the Decorah Eagles nest for
the third year now: we have two fluffy peeping eaglet chicks and one egg still
to go: near addiction! See also FaceBook on Raptor Resource Project
