Hi Dane --You might want to take a look at Golden Gate Cohousing <http://www.meetup.com/ebcoho/pages/Golden_Gate_Cohousing/> about 100 miles away from you in Oakland. It is "a project of the Parker Street Foundation, a non-profit organization whose purpose is to promote affordable housing and effective community." They have a 100% rental model where residents rent their units from a non-profit.
