All experiences of doing things together have advantages -- and disadvantages. Good cohousing design doesn't require that I personally have to be part of that designing. That the building was designed for cohousing by people with an interest in design is more important. Not everyone in our original group cared at all. That's not why they were interested. Thus just wanted to live there. They listened in meetings but had few comments and didn't participate in design process otherwise. I suspect that is true of all groups.
