I have also just finished a relevant book on the subject by NYU prof.
Charles Seife called "Virtual Unreality". Among many intriguing insights,
it describes the real intent behind some game designer's offerings. It's an
important read for adults too.

>>>A number of us in our community are reading ?Hooked on Games: The Lure
and
Cost of Video Game and Internet Addiction? by Andrew Doan. I recommend it
to every parent, but particularly to cohousing communities where we often
state that we are the village that helps raise kids. Also, cohousers are
often politically active. This book is compelling me to research more and
advocate more around the issue of on-line-gaming addiction. I was woefully
na?ve.

>>>There will be a discussion at the cohousing conference on raising kids in
cohousing?maybe we could change it to ?raising kids in cohousing in the
internet age?. But don?t wait until then to read this book or others on the
subject.
