This is not exactly quite right. Those who come together to invent and choose a different lifestyle — the cohousing lifestyle — are already committed to an ideal that is not “normal” for the local market. In making the choices that are uniquely right for them and their community, they could also choose a higher-density construction model. They don’t have to; multi-family construction is not a feature of necessity for cohousing. But they could.
