I am fortunate enough to have been one of the founding residents of Swan's Market Cohousing in downtown Oakland, CA, where we just celebrated our 15th anniversary (20 years if you include the forming, planning and building stages).

I'll be going to the Cohousing Conference in Durham at the end of May, and I hope to see some of you there. But if you are unable to attend the conference and are looking for a cohousing experience of a different sort, perhaps you'd like to stay in my loft condo while I'm gone.
(May 23-May 29).

Swan's Market Cohousing is located downtown in Oakland. We are "close to everything", as they say. Walking distance from The Oakland Museum of California, Jack London Square, Lake Merritt (the jewel of Oakland), Oakland's Chinatown (2 blocks), and our BART (rapid transit--even closer than Chinatown). The BART can take you to downtown Berkeley or downtown San Francisco in about 12 minutes, and it goes to both the Oakland and San Francisco Airports, meaning you don't need a car here, although you will be welcome to use mine while you are here. A dozen ACTransit buses stop within 3 or 4 short city blocks of here as well.

If you want to see Swans Market get the street view on google maps for 930 Clay Street and navigate in that view around to the 9th Street side of the building to see into our courtyard. Also, check out our website www.swansway.com

As I mentioned above I live in a loft. The loft is both my bedroom and my office. Downstairs, I have a comfortable full-size bed, and a fold-up full-size sofabed that I've never used. My place is not big but it is fine for a single person or a couple, and, I'd say up to 2 kids including teens. It's also fine if a member of your party wants to sleep upstairs in my loft.

The conference is the weekend after Memorial Day weekend, so if you want to have a longer visit to the Bay Area by including Memorial Day weekend, AND you don't mind sharing my home with me for up 4 or 5 nights before I leave, (might not work for you if you are bringing a kid or kids with you though it's okay with me), that would be fine.

You probably noticed that I put a second set of dates in the subject heading: June 23-29 I will be going out of town then as well, to Portland OR, and would welcome a cohousing enthusiast to stay in my home while I'm gone then as well.

There's one more privilege you get if you stay here either time. It is the privilege of being a companion to my cuddly little poodle, all 7.5 pounds of him. He just turned 14, and although he doesn't see very well any more, he's otherwise as peppy as a puppy, and is completely hypoallergenic. I will ask you to water my plants once while you are here, and my fishie, whose name is Fishie would appreciate being fed too. Whether you come in May or June, you will be present for at least two common dinners, and you'll be my guest for those even though I'm not here. And you will find my cohousing neighbors welcoming and fun to be with.

Questions? Hit me up by phone or email (preference for the phone if that's convenient for you: 510-834-7399 landline preferred, or cell 510-387-1315).
