Hi- We are working on a funding proposal within our community. After a decade in residence, we want to update the common kitchen to better support community building and we have decided that the first step is to hire a design team to help us refine the design intent and program and to help us create two or three options (such as low cost, high cost) to consider for funding. Our current idea is to hire a local firm with familiarity with our county’s regulatory environment (which has its quirks, to say the least) along with someone familiar with cohousing and its kitchens. The ask: What do you think would be a good cost estimate for me to plug into the proposal to the community? I am also going to ask our management company, but I suspect they will be stumped on the cohousing element of the work, especially since we are probably going to need a design charette, and more than the usual amount of time between design and implementation. If you are a cohousing kitchen designer who might be interested in this project, please send me an email offline or catch me at the conference. Be patient if I don’t answer right away - I need to get this proposal written and agreed on before I can take any next steps. You know how it goes. Thanks- Jessie Handforth Kome Eastern Village Cohousing Silver Spring, Maryland “Where spring has come at last with cherry blossoms and tulip trees blooming and children’s chalk on the sidewalk saying “Welcome!”"
