Hi all — In just a few weeks a bunch of us will be gathering Salt Lake City for the Aging Better Together conference. Will you be there? I sure hope so. I want to see you! Janice Blanchard and I are giving three of the presentations at the two day event. Our interest is in Deep Aging — that period between healthy aging and death. Is cohousing an answer to keeping people out of nursing homes? What programs are in place that cohousing communities can adapt to have community members stay at home? How is cohousing uniquely positioned to address the issues of Deep Aging? These are just a few of the questions Janice and I and others are trying to answer. If you’ve been wondering where and how you will spend that period of you life when you move from needing assistance driving to needing assistance with basic activities of daily living (dressing, feeding, toileting) I urge you to attend our sessions: The Elephant in the Common Room, An Elephant Never Forgets and The Elephant’s Graveyard. Details on the conference here: http://cohousing.org/2016aging In addition to the SLC conference, Mid Atlantic Cohousing is funding a year long Aging in Community Collaboratory, in which Janice and I will work with six cohousing communities to help each one develop a customized program for aging in place in community. The first weekend is coming up April 8-10. Ultimately, we will publish the results of this study. In preparation for the SLC conference and the launch of the Collaboratory I’m publishing a series of postings about Aging in Community and cohousing via the weekly Mid Atlantic Cohousing newsletter. You can subscribe to the newsletter for FREE: http://www.midatlanticcohousing.org Click on the BIG white button! But if you don’t want to subscribe you can read the main posts of the newsletter on line at the MAC blog. http://www.midatlanticcohousing.org/cohousing-blog From now on, just the lead articles will be uploaded to the blog site— if you want all the other fun goodies in the newsletter … you’ll have to suck it up and subscribe. BTW—You may have already seen one of the recent posts “The Elephant in the Room” which Alice Alexander uploaded to the cohousing.org website: http://cohousing.org I am honored that Alice chose to include this article at cohousing.org — I’m gonna keep writing! If you want to know more about the Aging in Community Collaboratory do check out the MAC website. And read the blog posts! So … will I see you in Salt Lake City?
