Ours is Another Community very happy with our Corelle dishes, light, unbreakable, stack easily, fit in dishwasher nicely, dry quickly. We are 20 years from move in and started with a lot of donated stuff, gradually replaced with restaurant quality things. Good quality pots and pans of various sizes are worth the money. Forget the old donated nonstick and aluminum pans, you’ll just end up throwing them out shortly. Get measuring spoons and cups with the size stamped into the metal so it can’t wear off. Wine glasses are useful for those celebrations which are surprisingly frequent. Be sure to have a designated place for all the instruction manuals for all the appliances big and small. Saves time hunting for them years later. Large Pyrex baking pans for all those casseroles are essential. And large ladles for the soups. Happy cooking.Bonnie FergussonSwans Market CohousingOakland, CA Sent from Yahoo Mail for iPad On Monday, November 16, 2020, 5:15 AM, Nancy Lowe <sciencecandance [at] gmail.com> wrote: Hi Melinda, Just a quick note re donated items. (Full disclosure, I'm a prospective soon-to-be-explorer at Village Hill) Lake Claire Cohousing in Atlanta used mostly donated items in the kitchen, which was fine with two exceptions. Aluminum pots are possibly risky; non-stick cookware is definitely risky. I'd invest in good quality cookware. The thing about donated items in the common house is that folks usually don't donate their nicer stuff, they tend to donate stuff they are getting rid of, so you end up with a collection of so-so items. The plates and glasses weren't a big deal, they just don't stack well and some were kind of ugly, but they were functional. --- Nancy Lowe BrighterImpacts.com On Fri, Jun 26, 2020 at 6:53 AM Melinda Darer <melinda.darer [at] gmail.com> wrote: > Good morning: > > Our Common House at Village Hill Cohousing in Northampton should be > ready towards the end of the year.
