We've launched Diversity, Allyship With Action & Transformation! (DAWAT) and we Love it--please join in! *REVIEWS ARE IN on the DAWAT links, and our local group so far!!… * ”These videos are amazing!”, “The 5 questions focused us”, “I thought I was the only one”, “Thought I knew all this—powerful words right from their mouths”, “I’m so glad we’re doing this” “I laughed & cried, & was shocked--now I’m inspired!” Our first local Zoom DAWAT gathering was generous, insightful, bonding & powerful! Other groups have formed their own haround the country. Anyone, anywhere can duplicate this ongoing DAWAT Study Group for your own community. You don’t have to, but we HIGHLY recommend buying & accessing the powerful CohoUS *Community for All *Conference discount community rate <https://www.cohousing.org/2020-all/>. (just email them & they’ll link you up). Many cohousers contributed their souls to this conference. How DAWAT works—very simple: · We watch (on our own time) 3 life-changing videos from the Conference Vids and/or from the free Cultural Awareness Menu & Action Q’s <https://www.cohousing.org/black-cultural-awareness-menu-an-intro/> · Then we do a Zoom where we answer together; the 5-Q’s from the same Cultural Awareness Menu & Action Q’s <https://www.cohousing.org/black-cultural-awareness-menu-an-intro/> *We started with these videos *(watched them before we met): * 1–**Black Parents explain to their children* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coryt8IZ-DE&t=16s&fbclid=IwAR3hRPoGBx3LJRbbIDg6ygVrx2JlwlGtLGU1RnA0kjjGqu-jGQkgXHJwHn4> how to deal with police –5 min. *2–**How to be an Ally* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hjhQTQ-EOyI>–Comic, prod., actor Evelyn from the Internets –8 min. * 3–**Diverse Expert Q&A on White Fragility* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LE8_0blJOtk&feature=youtu.be> Erin Trent Johnson, Robin DiAngelo, Aaron Morrison –50 min. And a Bonus: What not to to say to *a Trans Person (in their words)* <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvBwWeG4Rpc&feature=youtu.be> When some folks showed up at the DAWAT Zoom gathering having not watched any videos, & others having watched all of them, we watched this short one on Zoom <https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gv1aDEFlXq8&feature=youtu.be> (that covers a lot of bases), so all could participate! Use your own ground rules, but we added these… *EVC DAWAT Gathering Ground Rules: (in addition to the general EVC guides)* · This is a shared, exciting inquiry, not a debate or sermon · Keep genuine generosity & respect throughout · It’s a space for vulnerability, mistake-making, learning · Even through emotion, we’ll generously, maturely remain focused on the topic at hand. If anyone needs to leave, they just say, “I’ll be OK, please continue this important topic”. *Important:* We'll choose 1 or 2 short, funny links, and 1 or 2 serious ones. They all teach. *DAWAT Background:* This DAWAT Program is a blending of work with National CohoUS’ers, and a group of independent diverse coaches from across the country (& a couple abroad). It has a focus on Diversity, BLM and Allyship. *If you wish to visit both sites, the instructions are also below. * Thanks to the following local EVC Village people who supported us purchasing the powerful CohoUS’s *Community for All* Video links… (Daisy Birch), Cherie Cushenberry, Rodney Elin, Debra Few, JoAnne Growney, Jay Kaplon, Joan King, Ed King, Nels Larson, Neha Misra, Carrie Noel-Nosbaum, Arash Sadati, Stephan Sylvan, Anne Thompson, Arvind Venugopal *More about the Two-part DAWAT...(if you need any)* This is an ongoing DAWAT Program. We’ll probably meet once or twice a month. We will have regular ZOOM discussion groups for those who wish to participate, And; you can view/read the links on your own or with family, friends & colleagues. *HERE ARE THE LINKS to the Diversity Awareness With Action & Transformation (DAWAT)*… DAWAT is in 2 parts: *Part 1 is free for all inside and outside EVC & the Village.* Just click here: Cultural Awareness Menu & Action Q’s <https://www.cohousing.org/black-cultural-awareness-menu-an-intro/> (and 3 steps to Transformational Allyship) Part 2 is the WONDERFUL CoHoUS National Community For All Conference <https://www.cohousing.org/2020-all/>, Part 2 is only for those individuals/ community members who have purchased Conference access—but ask them (CoHoUS) & they can help get you access. *We suggest starting w/these videos from the Conference (they’re all very good!)...* --Crystal Byrd Farmer, Helena Cragg, Rosemary Linares and Alicia Wilson-Ahlstrom: Stories from BIPOC Cohousers --Crystal Byrd Farmer: Lessons from the Token --Tovah Melaver and Dancingwater Catherine Shiel: Addresssing Race and Privilege in Community -- Daisy Birch: Allyship as a core of Community Transformation --Joe Cole: What's in a Name?
