Cohousers ... Cohousers or not we are all aging. If you joined a community 10 years ago when you were 40 now you're 50 or 60 or 70. There is no better time for communities to plan how to deal with their aging selves is the present. Each of us is an individual who chooses how much community or privacy we want at any given moment. regardless of that, we give up part of our individuality to be part of a social contract with the other community members. Part of that contract is caring for each other. In the outside world, they say, "I'm going to the store, let me know if you need anything." In cohousing, we say, "I'm going to the store. I'll pick up that quart of milk you said you needed." In a cohousing community culture, it's okay to ask for help and readily give it.
