I am grateful for examples of things done, quoted below. A pre-Covid attempt to form an Age in Place group (committee) in Eno Commons fizzled out. Since then, some of us have found and shared some structural solutions, as I mentioned. Now, in preparation for calling together a new group, I am looking for inspiring examples of successful cooperative actions that other cohousing communities have established, with emphasis on aging neighbors helping one another. Thanks again! Ed Sutton Eno Commons Durham NC <We have a video of a presentation Sherry Cummings gave our group about aging in place in Cohousing that I can share.> <We make meals for people if they are in recovery from something and give rides if someone needs it but it?s informal. One thing older people who are alone can do is take turns with a friend calling each other every night to make sure they are both Ok. They dont have to talk - just say Im OK.> < In cohousing, we say, "I'm going to the store. I'll pick up that quart of milk you said you needed." In a cohousing community culture, it's okay to ask for help and readily give it.> <In our community, Shepherd Village Cohousing, we have items in a storage area; walkers, wheelchair, etc.,that residents can check out, use and then return. This loan service of durable medical equipment is provided in cooperation with another organization that is specifically involved in "aging in place." But the storage area is located in our building.>
