Dear Cohousing people

In response to the murders in June of environmental journalist Dom Phillips
and indigenous expert Bruno Pereira
<https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_WAD6-Cusmc>, Lancaster cohousing resident
Fiona Frank and a team at low carbon event space and coworking space Halton
Mill, which is owned by Lancaster Cohousing, has put on an exhibition and
a month of activities in and around Lancaster and online. The exhibition
and activities are designed to raise awareness of the ways in which the
Amazon is being destroyed, but also pointing to some sustainable solutions,
which Dom Phillips was researching for his book 'How to Save the Amazon'
when he and Bruno were killed in the Brazilian Amazon, by people involved
in illegal fishing. Sian Phillips, Dom Phillips' sister, is a Lancaster
resident, and Dom visited Lancaster Cohousing and Halton Mill last year,
interested in our community owned hydro electric plant.
<https://haltonlunehydro.org/> which provides the power for our 41
households and for Halton Mill.

We are much heartened by the result of the Brazilian presidential election
- and specifically, the politician tipped to be the new Environment
Minister paying tribute yesterday to Dom and Bruno and others who have lost
their lives defending the rainforest, and Lula, the incoming president,
pledging to make the environment one of his government's top
priorities, telling
journalists "we are going to fight for zero deforestation in the Amazon" .
