Disclaimer... I am not expert on this but...
We wandered around and think we found a way that works.

I will call the page
https://cohousinginstitute.org/courses/virtual-conference-opening-day/
the "Conf page".

You need a separate login and password for
https://cohousinginstitute.org
but there is no option to create that
from the "Sign in" page ( link at the top right of Conf page )

Instead go to "Programs" tab on the Conf page,
scroll down and pick "Free" ( or "$60" if already a partner)
click on the "start here" button at the bottom of the blurb about options.
On the resulting page click on "Complete registration"
that gets you to Checkout page where you can finally create the new
account name and password.

We found this confusing but hope this helps...
