Re: Looking for examples of software coho use to manage community

hi Steve,

you're right, some of the code is specific to cohousing (e.g. meal system) but
most of it could be useful to almost any type of community. I do host a couple
of sites for non-cohousing groups who have found out about Mosaic from
cohousers.

the origin of Mosaic is simply that I had written this code for my own
cohousing community and thought I could provide it to other communities without
much effort (ha!). I'm interested in communities helping each other in the same
way that members within a community help each other. Since making it available,
I've added tons of functionality at the request of other communities which has
made it even more useful to more people. cohousing.site
<http://cohousing.site/>, and sites.community, are the early domains I secured
for the sites (which can also use domains owned by a community). The site is
focused on cohousing but at some point I'd like to add material that is focused
on all types of communities.

There's a reason the name Mosaic is used by so many different things, it's
nicely evocative of a melange of different people. I'm very open to changing
the name. The name itself is not important to the sites. Years ago I thought
about changing it to Contigo but that has the same search engine problem as
Mosaic. The best way to have an easily found thing is to invent a new name.
Please let me know if you have any suggestions.

best,
  Sean
