I am the bookkeeper for our community. Just started less than a year ago.
You might consider asking your tax preparer for a recommendation. After all
they will need to work together.
Also, of course, you still need a treasurer who will work closely with your
bookkeeper. Under no circumstances should the bookkeeper and the money
handler be the same person. That’s how embezzlement happens. And if you
think that could never happen in your community Google HOA+embezzlement.
Finally ask about the software they use. Quicken is the standard and every
accountant who might have to come in for an audit knows that system inside
out.
