We use Quickbooks Online. There are many advantages including the fact that
it is in the cloud so, at our rate, up to three people can have access
(bookkeeper, treasurer, and alternate bookkeeper in our case), virtually
every accountant in the world knows it which makes tax preparation and
audits a cinch, we can use accrual accounting which provides a much more
accurate picture of your finances, GAAP (generally accepted accounting
practices) are easily met, putting together monthly, quarterly and annual
reports is quite easy, banks work very well with downloading transactions
into this platform, and many other pluses. I wouldn’t volunteer for this
position if the community didn’t agree to pay the subscription. We pay
about $70/mo. That’s the down side. Also there is a learning curve. Once
it’s up and running it practically runs itself except for putting in the
dues paid monthly but even that is made very simple with automated
recurring transactions.
