Here at Newt Crossing (also in Port Townsend) we survived the storm just fine. The power never even went out.

It slowed down a few activities (surveyor and septic test-pit digger) but only by a day or so.

Oh dear, dear, dear dear.

Just read a news story about this terrible weather whipping over Washington state. This is a terrible storm with already one person dead.

There are so many Cohousing communities in that state.

And where will it go next? Cohousing communities all up and down the West Coast.

For all the people in Washington state and those in Cohousing: How are you all doing?

You may not be able to answer if your power is out and you want to conserve your batteries and your electronic devices.

Please know I am concerned about you and I know others in the Cohousing community are as well.

Drop a note when you can.

Our community (Duwamish) in West Seattle was only lightly scathed -- power out for about 5 hrs. No significant wind damage. I expect similar for our neighbors (Puget Ridge) a mile south. It seems there was more storm impact
east of the city.

Here at Winslow cohousing, we had a power outage of about 12 hrs. Many
still without power and roads are blocked with tree limbs. All recoverable
stuff so far.
But no doubt these severe atmospheric rivers will become more severe as
long as oil and gas owns our government and institutions.

Does your community use a shared printer? If so, what model do you use and
how do you keep track of costs? Pros/Cons/Advice?

thanks,

I think we have a Brother 3 in 1 but any printer that connects online will work. It is attached to our intranet so people can print from their units. It works well until someone accidentally turns off the printer or it runs out of paper. A pointperson checks to be sure the paper tray is full, and the cartridge doesn?t need to be replaced.

We ask people to replace the paper or use their own paper when they do large printings and to donate a cartridge every once in a while.

We?ve been doing this for over 20 years. People don?t need to print as often as they used to, so it isn't high maintenance now. And in emergencies more households have printers so one is usually available.

It?s a high-value, low-use asset.

Our community, Jackson Place Cohousing, near downtown Seattle, was very
lucky. We did not have any blackout. And there was not a lot of wind or
rain damage in our neighborhood.

Cohousingly,
