Hello, My next class on three kinds of community conflict is seven Thursday evenings starting April 17. Times are 4-6:30m US Pacific Time and 7-9:30 US Eastern Time. We cover what I call "structural conflict" —which seems to be especially prominent in cohousing communities. This occurs when cohousers don’t understand the amount of time and energy it takes to maintain a healthy, successful community, including the need to develop, approve, and implement policies for various community activities and functions; for example about meetings, agendas, facilitation, minutes, committees, committee members, and committee visitors. This can create confusion, which usually also triggers interpersonal conflict too. Most community consultants don’t understand this, and so treat the conflict as if it was simple interpersonal conflict, without also addressing the possible missing structures. The class explores structural conflict and what cohousers can do about it, as well as simple interpersonal conflict, and what I called "especially challenging behaviors" in my article series in Communities magazine about this, and how individuals, groups of friends, and the whole community can address and contain these behaviors successfully. The cost is US $195 to $295 sliding scale, with a discount for groups of five or more from the same community who register at the same time. Here's the link for more information and to register: https://www.schoolofintegratedliving.org/working-effectively-with-community-conflict/ It's my great hope that we all, cohousers, ecovillagers, and everyone learn proven, field-tested methods from successful communities about how to effectively address these three kinds of conflict. All good wishes, Diana Leafe Christian
