Good news, Fred: the Oakcreek cohousing community is on the north side of
town, between two creeks and close to a big lake.

(I got to visit last year)

The fire was on the southwest side of town, not near them.

They may have been affected by power outages and ongoing air quality issues
in the wake of the fire; at least one evacuation center is in a church near
the community.

The community knows that there are tornadoes regularly in their area, so
they have a disaster plan for that, which I imagine would also serve them
well in other types of calamities.

PS As always, don’t confuse them with Oak Creek Commons, the
long-established intergenerational community in central California,
recently having fun with an improv workshop and a house concert, according
to their Facebook page. Or Fair Oaks EcoHousing, the Sacramento-area
community that moved in five years ago as COVID was starting. Or Valley Oak
Village, cohousing in Chico, at the north end of the Central Valley. Or
Great Oak Cohousing, the second of three adjacent communities nextdoor to
Ann Arbor, Michigan. Or Twin Oaks, the income-sharing commune in Virginia.
Or Oak Park cohousing, now under construction near Chicago.

They are all Oaks of some sort, but you’d be barking up the wrong tree. ;-)
