News from the local tar sands front. I can't make it, but it would be good if someone from EcoMinds/CCC were present. Scott Jackson sjackzen46 [at] gmail.com ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Kathy Hollander <Kathy [at] mn350.org> Date: Tue, Feb 11, 2014 at 9:31 AM Subject: Oil Spill Bill To: mn350-tar-sands-team <mn350-tar-sands-team [at] googlegroups.com>, " mn-tar-sands [at] googlegroups.com" <mn-tar-sands [at] googlegroups.com> I'm proud to announce - . The "Oil Spill Defense Act " Press Conference will be this Wednesday (tomorrow) at 2 PM at the intersection of Everett Court and Tanter, near the intersection of Energy Park Drive and Raymond in St Paul. If you are able to attend, park on Everett Court (one block east of Raymond) on the south of Energy Park Drive and walk to the end of the block - Tanter. The press conference will be hosted by Representative Frank Hornstein and Senator Scott Dibble, with MN350's lawyer on the contested hearing case, Paul Blackburn, and United Transportation' s Union's Representative Phillip Qualy speaking as well. The legislation protects Minnesotans and Minnesota's water and land by 1) requiring real state oversight of oil and hazardous substance spill response planning and 2) increasing resources for state and local first responders. Current state law adopts weak federal standards and provides no resources for state and local responders, with the result that taxpayers currently foot the bill for state and local spill response planning. Hope to see you there! But if you are not able to attend, hopefully you'll see something in the news! - Kathy Hollander Mn350 Tar Sands Lead 612 245 9381
