The first item in this thread is an e-newsletter from Honor the Earth with
a special invitation to a traditional foods feast on Sunday, December 21,
at 4:00-10:00 pm in Duluth. After some discussion, MN350 has decided to
purchase two tables at the event, and a group of us will be carpooling
together to Duluth in the early afternoon. If anyone from MUUSJA is
interested in supporting Honor the Earth (at a cost of $40 per person) and
joining us next Sunday, please let me know so appropriate arrangements can
be made. Thanks.

Thank you so much for the book club info, Scott - I have Jan 10th on my
calendar.  Ron will be here so I'd like to bring him also as he is reading
the book....   What did you think of the discussion yesterday - I was sorry
I had to leave a bit early....  And good to see you too!
    I sent a separate note about the table in Duluth, suggesting that you
work through Kate on a table as I believe she already has Ron and me
assigned to a table of eight.

Here's the special invitation as promised, Dagmar. If you and Ron do
purchase a table, please let me know so I can chip in and don't have to buy
a ticket separately. (That is, unless you and Ron want to donate the entire
$320. In that case, I'll buy separately.) Thanks.

FYI: The next MN350 book club gathering for Eastsiders is Saturday, January
10, at 2:00 pm at Kathy's house. We're reading Part 2, Magical Thinking.
Kathy (Ch. 8), Carolyn (Ch. 7), and I (Ch. 6) will be summarizing the three
chapters, with Jim backing me up. If you find one of the chapters
particularly interesting, feel free to put together a summary to supplement
the others. It was good to see you today.

Please join Honor the Earth for a traditional foods feast, Manidoo
Giizisoons (Moon of the Little Spirit) & Native Craft fair in Duluth,
Minnesota on December 21, 2014 at Clyde Iron Works. This is a benefit to
support the campaigns protecting the Great Lakes region from pipeline and
mining development. The dinner will feature Sean Sherman, "the Sioux Chef,"
and a wide arrayof local foods sacred to the Lakota, Dakota and Ojibwe
people. Please join us.
The Duluth Chamber of Commerce recently held an annual dinner, hosting a
top Enbridge CEO as an honored guest, touting what a great member of the
community the company has been. (Never mind the 800+ spills they’ve had in
the last decade, their illegal plans, and their unwillingness to provide
adequate safety measures to the communities they claim to support.)  Honor
the Earth will send a message to the city of Duluth and Enbridge Company
that water is worth more than oil, that our land-based economics must be
protected, and that we, the Anishinaabeg, and all that are envisioning and
working for a regenerative, fossil fuel reduced and free economics and
lifeway, are creating our just future.
And so we celebrate our traditions, our good food, honor the water, and all
life. Manidoo Giizisoons feast is an opportunity to do just that. Honor the
Earth has invited the Duluth Chamber of Commerce and city officials to this
event. We know that this is a moment we can all celebrate together, and it
is a teaching moment for all who love the Great Lakes.
Honor the Earth is a small organization with limited resources, but we have
a great commitment to our communities, water and land. We will continue to
educate and inspire both Indigenous and non-indigenous people to make
conscious choices and to work together in the protection of a good
future for all of Turtle Island, and the world. Please support this
important work by purchasing tickets for the event.
Tickets are available individually ($45), and with a discount for couples
($80) and for full tables ($320). Each table seats 8. Our hope is bands,
organizations, businesses and individuals will reserve tables and share or
give tickets to family, friends and co-workers. Tickets are available
