Re: Making files available to the wiki

It seems you're making things overly complicated. You've put up a
Games page on the wiki, but are then linking to an html file??
Doesn't that seems... well, redundant? Just put the links right in
the Games page, and be done with it. No files, no embedded evil
scripts, no uploading hassles, just cut-and-paste, format, and you're
done.

Is there are reason you don't want the links in a wiki page? Am I
missing something?

See second below.

Rick is a friend here in Mpls and I talked to him on the phone about
dealing with his file which was not on the web already so we decided
I'd put it up with a link from the wiki. Further we decided to put it up
in html (it was originally an Apple file which he sent as a .doc file.
It contains a number of URL's so it seemde like having it in html so those
could be links would be useful. But the wiki is not configured to allow
html to be uploaded (due to the possibility of destructive scripts being
embedded in it. I tried changing the html file name to .txt and
uploading it (intending to change the file name back via the shell
where the wiki runs). But got the following:

 Upload warning
The file is corrupt or has an incorrect extension. Please check the file
 and upload again.

Apparently the upload procedure looks inside the file, not just at the
extension. So I created a files directory at http://l.cohousing.org
(outside the wiki subdomain) which I (probably only I) can upload
things that the wiki upload procedure does not like (hopefully a few
exceptions).

I made a "Games" article that redirects to a stub article on "Games to
play in cohousing" but I got the url of the file wrong (forgot the files
subdir), did not have time to check it and tried to put the url of the
redirect in the cohousing-L message since it was shorter than the url to
the article's but that seems to go to the edit page for the redirect...

I'll keep trying.

This was a first experiment to use the wiki to provide access to a file
and I blew it (two ways- both fixed now). A correct procedure to get to
the games file is:
Go to the Cohousing wiki at http://wiki.cohousing.org and
search for games. (The direct url is on the long side).
