Right now our small group in South Florida (3 households) is putting a lot of effort into advertising a cohousing seminar where we hope to generate interest and new members for our core group. We have reviewed all state media and are sending press releases to newspapers and magazines for groups as diverse as Parenting , Retirement , Architects, Health Conscious, Environmentalists and Singles . This is the general blanket group. Specifically we want people who want to live in our area so we are targeting is the local trendy (Village Voice-type) paper. Beside, they were interested in our pitch. We hope their advance coverage will interest the dailies in our area (more conservative publications). We are also trying to get some radio coverage. Of course we are putting up flyers at places like schools and health food stores and organizing a booth at a folk music festival. Who do I think should be targeted to cover cohousing? Everyone! I agree with Munn Heydorn that banks and financiers need to learn more about us- and here is where a national effort could make a difference. This gives me the idea to research state reps with housing and/or banking interests and send them info. Although many cohousers seem politically left to center, it is a concept which could engage both sides of the spectrum. Maybe that's why were even pitching Florida Catholics and we sent a flyer to the White House.
