Angie, Here at the Nyland community in Colorado, we have community meals 4 nights a week...Sunday, Monday, Wednesday and Thursday. Members of the community are expected to cook and clean once each rotation, every 6 weeks, and you can eat as often as it works for you. Cooking teams are composed of three people who share the responsibilities of shopping (we get coupons from the kitchen manager so there is rarely any out of pocket expenses) cooking serving and cleaning up. On the average people put in about 5 hours for their shift. Menus are posted about two weeks in advance and you need to sign up at least a day or so prior to the meal. Dinners are $2.75 for adults and range from $.75 to $1.75 for kids depending on how much they eat. This is determined by the parents. People are billed at the end of the month for all the meals they have eaten, leftovers they have taken home ($1.00 per serving) and guest ($4.50 per meal). The system works very well. We usually have between 30-60 people for each meal. Happy Eating, Bill bpaiss [at] aol.com
