Cohousing-L Mailing List: quick definition

When someone asks, "What is cohousing?" is there a
short (preferably one sentence) answer that could
almost be memorized as a quick starter for the
conversation?  Whenever someone asks me that question,
I find myself rambling into a five-minute discouse
which leaves the questioner confused & thinking that
this cohousing thing sounds awfully complicated.
