---------------------------------------------------------------- Cohousing: Pleasant Hill - Upcoming EVENTS At last a COHOUSING OPPORTUNITY in Contra Costa County! We Are on the Move! We have a site. We have preliminary designs that have been submitted to the city.. We have a fun and interesting group with 17 households already signed up! ... And with some persistence and a little luck we¹ll start construction by the end of the year! Our vision is to create an intergenerational community designed to foster friendships between neighbors while maintaining individual privacy. We are seeking others to join us in creating a 32-unit cohousing community in Pleasant Hill. We welcome people of all backgrounds and families with children! Come find out more about us at two March events, an open house and a picnic. Our Site Our 2.2 acre site is conveniently located near Highway 680 and BART with easy access to shopping and recreation and a direct commute to San Francisco (40 min. BART ride). A 20-mile walking and bike path - Iron Horse Trail - runs adjacent to the site and then winds through the county from Dublin to Concord. A magnificent heritage oak tree shelters the property. The City of Pleasant Hill Pleasant Hill, population 31,000, is located 4 miles north of the I-680/Hwy 24 interchange. Mostly a residential community with scattered retail/commercial areas, it is bounded by the cities of Walnut Creek, Lafayette, Concord, and Martinez. An abundance of good restaurants and shops are within easy driving distance. Pleasant Hill is also currently redeveloping its downtown to create a contemporary shopping district just blocks from the site. The Diablo Valley Community College and the regional YMCA are located in Pleasant Hill. The city has good recreation programs for all ages and regional walking/biking trails traverse it. Briones Regional park is just west of the city. The Project We are developing the project with the assistance of two well-known leaders in the field of cohousing, the CoHousing Company (Katie McCamant and Chuck Durrett) and Wonderland Development Company (Jim Leach). We have worked with them to design our individual homes and the type and size of common facilities - a 3,835 sq.ft. common house and a pool. The common house, with dining room, kitchen, sitting area, kids rooms, art room, workshop, guest rooms, and laundry, allows us to share some meals and many parts of our lives. Individual homes (flats and townhouses) have one to four bedrooms, with preliminary estimates ranging from $170,000 to $365,000. To learn more about the Project Pleasant Hill Cohousing will host an open house and slide show to inform people about our project and cohousing in general. Our architects, developer and those of us already committed to the project will be there to meet you and show you our designs. The open house will be followed, two weeks later, by a picnic with special entertainment for children. The open house is scheduled for Saturday afternoon, March 4, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The picnic will be held on Sunday, March 19, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. (see below for locations and call for more information).
