We get so serious sometimes--- feel free to plagiarize or spin off if this might entertain your neighbors! Some of it is RoseWind "in" jokes, but think of it as a strategy to lighten things up some day when your group is mired in fuss. (This originated with Pete Lauritzen, a member of our "real" Steering Committee.) ---Lynn Nadeau --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Minutes of Special RoseWind Steering Committee Meeting Present: A Quorum The Development Committee represented by Leonard Zweig presented a new proposal recommending development of the home-occupation lot as the RoseWind Funeral Home. This usage would represent the ideal cottage industry in which everyone in RoseWind could participate. We have a unique opportunity to offer the Port Townsend Community economical, understanding services and do worthy community outreach as well. We can offer services "with whimsy", which are much desired locally. We already have extensive experience with specialties like: cremation bonfires every full moon, group composting and personal worm bins, and we can offer scenic burial plots around the commons for those destined for Heaven or in a thicket for the others. However, the Steering Committee felt that a Casino is a far better choice for this lot. Everyone at RoseWind is asking for more "fun" activities and no more convenient "fun" exists than having a casino on the commons. Now that RoseWind has obtained official tribal standing [local paper titled an article on us "Tribal Living...."], no legal barriers remain to running a casino at RoseWind. For a small percentage of the profits, Harrah's Club has generously offered to pay for all materials if RoseWind will provide the volunteer labor to build and run the casino. Helen Kolff of the Casino Task Force reasoned that "we will never get consensus on the Casino, so let's just approve it as an emergency action". Starting next week, we will schedule daily work parties on the Casino, pausing briefly every other week to do a little work on the Common House. Lynn Nadeau has volunteered to order the bright, but tasteful, flashing neon signs needed so the casino can be seen from Discovery and San Juan Avenues. Howard Pack, Treasurer, announced that the Finance Committee will soon convert all remaining RoseWind funds into "chips" to be played at the Casino. This new investment will provide double benefits to RoseWind. Members can have "fun" playing the chips at the Casino. If the member loses the games, RoseWind benefits through higher Casino profits. If the games are won, RoseWind collects all the winnings. This will be definitely a "win-win" investment strategy for RoseWind. Jack Gordon reported that the Facilitation Committee is tired of trying to help RoseWind members reach consensus again and again at each business meeting. It's boring, time consuming and definitely not "fun". Jack proposed a by-laws change that would enable the Committee to have more flexibility in resolving difficult consensus decisions, a welcome role for our newly pro-active Facilitation Committee. The Committee would like to try the ancient and noble sport of dueling to resolve difficult issues. We would not only achieve quick resolution, but also gain the additional benefit of providing amusement for RoseWind members who observe the duels. The newly organized Weapons Task Force, headed by Don Stromberg, will choose weapons that are decisive and "fun". This newest task force will also aid the Landscape Committee in its new plans to allow hunting on the Commons to control the deer and reduce the excessive bird population. To share fairly in the experience, only the vegetarians will be allowed to hunt. All the meat will be divided among the non-vegetarians. Please do not reply with comments and concerns. The Steering Committee doesn't want to hear them.
