Hi, all. I hope that this question hasn't been discussed to death, but I volunteered to ask it of this group at my very first cohousing meeting last night <g>. What kinds of legal entities have groups just starting out formed themselves into? What are the advantages and disadvantages? Does what state you're located in make a difference? We're in Washington State. As one in the group who knows much more than I said: "We are currently looking at Limited Liability Corporations (LLCs) or a "Homeowners Association" structure. We are planning to use condo structure, rather than cooperative structure for ownership, and we are planning to use a developer rather than being self-developers." Any responses are more than welcome, and if it's been done to death, private email is fine. Thanks! Meg Justus who hopes to live in South Sound Cohousing in the Tacoma, Washington, area one of these days
