We at Village Cohousing have a much simpler kid's room than that at Takoma Cohousing. Ours is one small room with carpet and loads of donated items. These include one wall-length shelving system, one low set of shelves, one table and several chairs, lego sets including a train set, puzzles, games, toys, push toys, wind-up toys, chalk and board, crayons, balls. The room is heavily used, mostly by kids 1 to 8, and often by the 10-11 year-olds, especially when they are playing with the younger ones. We only have 3 kids living in our community, but there are often guests with kids. Our outdoor play area is rather amorphous yet. We recently put in a sandbox, which serves as a social focal point for both kids and adults. Otherwise, kids play mostly in the courtyard and on the sidewalks surrounding it. Our play areas, as with most other aspects of our lives together, is still evolving. Stephanie Fassnacht Village Cohousing Madison, Wisconsin
