I think it was Sharon who wrote:

"The problem with many of the slogans, including Cohousers Do It in the
Commonhouse, is that they evoke too many images of the "C" word -- communes.
Perhaps younger people are not so sensitized to the image of a bunch of
drugged up hippies dancing around all day with flowers in the (long,
unwashed) hair having sex with anything living, several times a day. But too
many people still think that is what any form of community living is."

There will always be those who will choose to portray community, or for
that manner, any other thing they disapprove of, in the most negative light
they can. These folks are not likely to ever move into a cohousing group.
(and we are lucky they don't, I've met these people in droves, they are not
worth your time.)

Rather than being ashamed of, or afraid of what we do, we should be proud
of it. Stand up for working together, eating meals, sharing spaces,
ESPECIALLY at our own conference for heavens sake.

here's my take today on a slogan.

Community: The caring family I always wanted.

Still glowing from two fabulously sunny days and a couple of warm birthday
parties for our elders.
