Hi All, At Central Austin Cohousing in Texas, our proposed unit mix includes a couple of what we're calling, for lack of a better term, "pod" units. They're proposed as suites of 4 studio apartments (with private entrances) arranged around a larger shared kitchen, living, and dining area. Sort of like mini-cohousing within cohousing, or perhaps a co-op with large rooms that all have a private entrance, bathroom, and cooking space. We have one core member who wants to purchase such a unit, and several peripheral members who are very interested in them. We are considering having one pod of "owned" studios, and one of rentals. Or maybe they can be mixed - we're not sure. We all think they're a neat idea. We hope to make them very affordable, perhaps allowing some people to buy a home who might otherwise have to rent. Any thoughts on how we could improve this model, cautions, etc? Should the studios' ownership structure be on the co-op model instead of a condo model? Has anybody already tried this? Thanks!
