Welcome to the beginning of the second decade of cohousing-L. Tho it actually started on October 21, 1992 it ramped up slowly at first. In that time there have been 17,204 messages distributed. An overall average of 143 messages per month for 10 years. There are currently 785 subscribers. 452 Digest mode, 333 Non-digest mode. 260 of those are in Nomail mode, some because of problems with the address over the years, some so they can post but read via the archives. I have no idea how many of each. There have been 300 or more subscribers since 1994. Over that time there has been turnover in who is subscribed but some folks have been here a long time. A few come to mind - Judy Baxter was subscriber number 2 and is still here and posts occasionally. Rob Sandelin of course has been here a long time and surely holds some record for posting. Thanks Judy and Rob. Thanks to all who have made Cohousing-L what it is. The list has run on listservers at 3 different hosts over 10 years - all in the Twin Cities. 1993-1996 at my friend Jon Harder's work place. 1996-2001 at Minneapolis Telecommunications Network We are now using a Mailman host affiliated with Management Assistance Program for Nonprofits http://www.mapfornonprofits.org/ Information about Mailman can be found at: http://www.list.org/ and http://www.gnu.org/software/mailman/mailman.html Mailman is "open source" software developed cooperatively and distributed "free" . See http://www.opensource.org The Cohousing-L Info page at Mailman is evolving to be the onestop webpage for all Cohousing-L related links and information. In December 2002 the Info page became accessible via the URL: http://www.cohousing.org/cohousing-L It gives access to the following features: Since 1996 the archives have been in Colorado at http://csf.colorado.edu/cohousing/ They are hosted by Communications for a Sustainable Future http://csf.colorado.edu Thanks to CSF founder Don Roper and especially CSF volunteer Michael Yount. This is expected to change in the next year as a result of changes at CSF. The list has been at cohousing.org since the move to the second host in 1996. Having the list at our own domain eased the move in 2001. The cohousing web pages started by Stuart Staniford-Chen in 1994 or so were moved to http://www.cohousing.org in 1996 also. They have evolved since. Peter Scott developed the amazingly useful subject search for cohousing-L. http://nzpp.virtualave.net/coho/ Cohousing-L was started as a project of the Twin Cities Cohousing Network which is minimally active now. Cohousing-L is independent of but cooperates closely with The Cohousing Network http://www.cohousing.org I've enjoyed the 10 years of cooperative discussion and look forward to the future.
