Re: Communications by email

One category of things that should not go on email are things that become libelous or subject to legal action. Since email hangs around for a very long time, it is not a good idea to write things like, "I don't want Jim and Janet to join our group because I'm sure he is an alcoholic and she is addicted to crack." Or "I am certain that I saw that persona calling himself Jimmy-Sue in the county jail when we went on tour last year." Or "Harriet is a thief."

Aside from that one thing I do get very tired of very fast are forwarded announcements with no personal content. Right now it is 16 copies of each announcement about a war vigil. Often the people who send them only subscribe to a list in order to send them -- no other participation. When I point out that this is spam, I am viewed as a war monger (to put it mildly). If people are forwarding announcements and telling you how much this event means to them or inviting you to join them, it is different. But if I cared about the announcement, I would seek out the sources of getting the info myself.
